Today’s image was inspired by Jon Cornforth during our recent trip to the Big Island of Hawai’i. We were at Place of Refuge for a sunset shoot, but the vog was so bad that we never even pulled out our cameras. On our way out, I wanted to snap a picture of the Place of Refuge sign for my trip memory. While I was doing this, Jon snapped a similar portrait of this head using his iPhone. I loved how it looked – so I turned my Lensbaby Composer-equipped Canon 5D Mark II up at the totem and took this image. This guy was part of the park entrance sign along with a few other totems.

This Thanksgiving weekend, I want to give a special shout-out to the one that I’m really thankful for – my beautiful wife. Her unending love and support is the sole reason that I’m able to undertake the fun photographic business journey that I’m on now.. and I’m hugely grateful. I’ve got so many blessings this year – but that one in particular needed some very public recognition.

This shot was made with a new addition to my arsenal – the Lensbaby Composer with the Macro attachement. It’s a really cool lens that has a very unique look – it gets gradually blurrier once you move out from the ‘sweet spot’ of focus. I can’t wait to use it more!

Vital Stats: Canon 5D Mark II w/Lensbaby Composer + Lensbaby +10 macro adapter. ISO 400, f/2.8 ring, 1/80 sec.

This is the perfect graffiti to find on your fifth wedding anniversary. This shot is from Anderson Dock in Ephraim, WI. The entire outside of the boathouse is covered with the names of people that immortalized themselves on the wall. In the past, it was just the winners of the local regatta that could paint their nautical names on the building – now it’s anybody that wants to. I’ve got some good pictures of the building that I’ll put up sometime in the near future.

Today’s shot is admittedly a little different. This was a title screen for a wedding video that I shot at my friend JP’s wedding a few years ago. I always thought it looked really cool – and when I stumbled across it today, I thought it would be a fun change of pace for my daily picture. The picture was processed with Alien Skin’s awesome watercolor filter – it’s not cheap, but they give such a cool artistic look to a shot. They look especially cool on landscape and flower shots.

Last 4th of July, my family and I were on Whidbey Island in the state of Washington staying with our friend Beth. That little community pulled out all of the stops – parades, contests, food, and of course.. fireworks. I’ve never seen so many fireworks. At the end of the parade, there was a formation of old cars all decked out for the event. This was the front end of one of these beautiful old machines in the parade – proudly flying the flag(s).
